Madvillainy Samples Mix
Madvillain – Madvillainy (Samples Mix) by Boom Bap Beatnik on Mixcloud
Fantastic mix with every sample from Madvillainy presented by Hip Hop Is Read. Listening to this all the way through with the samples put together in order by each song is quite an experience! You’ll always see lists with all of these samples for classic albums but it’s really cool that someone took the effort to put it all together for everyone to listen to all the way through. If you’re feeling this, go ahead and follow @IvanRott. Looks like he’s covered a lot of other classics with sample mixes of their own, check it out over here.
Some New Avant-Garde
It’s been about a year since sharing some of Avant-Garde’s music last and I’m happy to say there’s even more stuff to share with you now. Spent the last hour checking this new work and I have to say while his old stuff was very good, you can definitely tell that he’s been hard at work lately creating an even more refined sound. I said it last time and I’ll say it again, if Trevor doesn’t get some decent following sometime in the future I figure everyone is just sleeping big time.
It’s looking like a new release will be coming out later this month titled Pigeon. Be sure to keep an eye out for this, I imagine it’ll be even more good stuff. If you are digging what you hear, be sure to follow Avant-Garde over on Twitter and check out his blog Endless Euphony.
Ahu Mixes Paul White (2007)
I will usually try to avoid posting about an artist two times in a row, but I ran into this awesome mix that I have to share. This was uploaded over on Paul White’s Soundcloud just yesterday, though it was originally made back in 2007. According to this older upload, Ahu had put together a selection of tracks from early Paul White beat tapes to create this 45 minute mix. A download can be found over here. Definitely worth checking out!
Roc C & Guilty Simpson – Ox to the D
Been a few days since I’ve posted something, busy at work this week. Also going to be busy this weekend with PAX, so I figured I’d post some goodness just in case I’m either too lazy/tired to put something up here soon. This is another one of those excellent VTech mixes that I talked about a week ago. As I’ve posted here again and again, I’m a huge fan of Guilty. I’ve always enjoyed Roc C as well, though he didn’t get enough time over at Stones Throw doing stuff which is too bad. The two are a great combo on this mix and are backed up by some nice beats. Soul Professa has some of the songs off this mix available on Bandcamp that he produced, the sound quality is even better over there too. Feel free to download the mix above if you are digging it and want to share!
Dr. No’s Infected Gadget Mix
Was listening to some random mixes last night and ran into this one. Dr. No’s Infected Gadget mix is a beat tape with Oh No flipping a bunch of Inspector Gadget samples. Oh No has made some heavy beats, but I think I can safely say these are some of the heaviest. I’m a huge fan of Oh No’s projects where he decides to focus on a single sample source/idea and completely destroy it (I think there are more of these than normally produced albums from Oh actually). It is cool when producers use a variety of sample types for their albums, but it takes someone very talented in my opinion to use related source material for beats that make up an entire album/mixtape. Oh No always brings the heat when it comes to these projects.
The mix is actually a couple of years old. A number of hip hop artists made some mixes and beat tapes that were sponsored by VTech (kind of a strange sponsor) and this was one of them. There were some really great mixes put together for this sponsorship but for some reason they were all taken down from the website that hosted them. You can still find a download link here and there for some of these, but I imagine most of the mixes will be forgotten which is a shame. The beats on this Gadget mix are way too good to be abandoned which is why I’ve decided to upload it for folks who are interested. If you are digging it you can go ahead and download it as well! I might get around to uploading some more of the other VTech mixes, lots of good music to be had from them.
AEIOU Warmups…the Iron Chef Mix!
I wrote about the awesome book project coming from Dust & Grooves the other week and I’m happy to say they exceeded their goal by almost $12,000! Really looking forward to seeing what comes out of the trip they’ll be taking. I imagine there will be a lot of interesting collections and folks along the way.
Above is a little promo vid that was done for the excellent AEIOU mixtape that was put together by TripleDouble, Duey Fm, and Master Sinh for the project’s Kickstarter campaign. There are some great selections on this one. Check it out for yourself with a free download over here.
77.7 Jsand Radio Vol. 3 (Cool out) Mix
Chill mix from a cool dude over at STMB. Excellent track selection on this one. I recognize some of the stuff but a lot of it is new to me which is nice. Wish I knew what the intro was, I’ve repeated that a few times now. Guy has a billion mixes over on Soundcloud, go ahead and grab some more if you are feeling this. You can also download the mix by clicking the button on the player above. Enjoy!

MED & J Rocc – Axel F
New Stones Throw Podcast came out yesterday, was very happy to see it coming from a couple of my favorite artists over there. ST Podcast #75 is a mix of new material from MED and J Rocc, whose collaboration I have been wishing for ever since hearing the two on the track Superman off MED’s Bang Ya Head III Pt 2 (the extended Superman on this new mix is badass). As I’ve said before MED is probably my favorite ST emcee if I had to choose one and I have been a huge fan of J Rocc’s production stuff ever since his first album Some Cold Rock Stuf which I promise I’ll get around to writing about one of these days. Only makes sense that they would collaborate! Made a sample for you above if you don’t believe the hype, those that trust me can download the full thing here. Hoping for more of this stuff, I would definitely purchase a full album of this material.
PS: Yes I know, another J Rocc related post… It’s not my fault there is so much to share lately! Also, check out the sweet artwork for the podcast Show ▼
